Camping is available at the center of the city amidst 340 acres of green space and lagoons providing an ideal place for enjoying the outdoors with picnic tables, shelters, fireplaces, tennis courts, playground equipment, baseball/softball diamonds, basketball courts, paved trails, soccer fields, and sand volleyball courts. Nearby is the Des Moines River and adjacent Wapello County Trails. RV camping with water and electricity is $15 per night. Tent camping is $9 per night. Three primitive camp sites, nine electric RV sites, two "camping" cabins, and two fully-furnished, modern cabins are offered at Pioneer Ridge. The modern cabins feature a living room, dining area, fully-stocked kitchen, bathroom with shower, and sleeping for six. The modern cabin rates are $52.50* per night Monday-Wednesday and $63* per night Thursday-Sunday. The "camping" cabins have electricity, heating, air conditioning, two bunk beds, microwave, and mini-fridge, however they do not have plumbing. A modern shower/restroom facility is available nearby.
